Forget summer weddings; in 2024, fall weddings are in!
Weddings held in the fall bring an “otherworldly” element to the occasion; the orange and red natural hues of the falling leaves and the clear skies is what most wedding couples (and photographers) dream of.
However, there is one specific and very important point that must be considered by anyone planning their wedding for the fall, and that is the catering. You cannot get away with simply offering light snacky foods as part of the buffet, as the weather is decidedly colder and, if you are having the wedding outside, you will want to ensure that your guests have a filling meal. So, without paying through the nose for a four-course meal for your guests, what can you do?
This article will walk you through the top catering trends to consider if you are planning to get married during the fall season.
Comfort Foods
Most people associate the fall season with a rise in the consumption of carbohydrates or comfort foods. So, why not incorporate this into your wedding? Your wedding caterer will be able to provide you with comfort foods galore, from carbohydrate-based foods such as pastas and breads, all the way to warming soups which can be served from a terrine.
This will allow you and your guests to have a warming food experience in the cooler months, without sacrificing on taste or flavor
Grazing Tables
Another catering trend which is worth looking into for fall-based wedding is a grazing table. You may be curious as to how this differs from a buffet table. Well, the answer is that grazing tables are usually created without the need for excessive plate usage and they are more relaxed or informal. They allow your guests the opportunity to try a little bit of everything, so they will need a bit more of a planned layout to prevent the tastes and textures from blending into each other.
Locally Sourced Veg and Fruit
If you are having a smaller wedding party or reception, it can also be worth looking into locally sourced fruit and veg (as well as meat and cheese if you have the budget). This is a nice addition to the majority of catering options, as it allows you to know exactly where the food you are serving to your guests has come from, and even though it will probably be a bit more expensive, you can usually rest assured that it will all be organic.
Plant-Based Catering
It has never been more popular to have plant-based food options at a social gathering. So, if you are inviting vegan guests, or if you simply want to offer vegan food at your wedding reception, you can talk to your caterer about plant-based options.
Much like the locally sourced foods, this option may cost slightly more. However, with a professionally trained vegan chef working for the catering team, nobody will be able to tell the difference. This is also great if you have vegetarian guests, or even guests who have a lactose intolerance.
